The Black AIDS Institute (BAI) is looking for a highly skilled and self-motivated Peer Navigation and HIV Testing Coordinator to help us end HIV/AIDS. The Peer Navigation and HIV Testing Coordinator is a part of an innovative team that works collaboratively to run BAI’s HIV clinical and behavioral services to serve Black Angelinos in South LA. This role is responsible for supporting BAI’s HIV clinical and behavioral programs through managing and implementing BAI’s social support programming and the recruitment of and engagement with Black people in LA.
The ideal candidate must have a demonstrated commitment to social justice and equity; have a strong work ethic; demonstrate success in program planning and implementation; and be able to thrive in an unapologetically Black work environment. Certification as an HIV tester for Los Angeles County is preferred.

Job Title: Peer Navigation and HIV Testing Coordinator

Salary/Hourly Range: $65,000 - $78,500 annually, dependent upon experience and qualifications.
Agency-wide Duties and Responsibilities:

Position Specific Duties/Responsibilities:
Leadership
- Build strategic relationships with community partners, conduct a variety of outreach activities, and recruit and retain clients for various BAI programs. (e.g., Social Sexual Network and SAMSHA programs)
- Plan and conduct a diverse array of outreach and recruitment efforts targeted to Black Angelinos at high risk of acquiring HIV for services and program participation.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate outreach plan and strategies.
- Attend relevant community meetings; participate in relevant councils, roundtables, and committees.
- Develop and maintain relationships with collaborative partners and cultivate new relationships as appropriate to support the mission of BAI.
- Co-facilitate Seeking Safety Sessions, a four-week group level evidence-based intervention focused on low income Black and Latino men who have sex with men 18 years and over who have a substance use disorder and/or co-occurring mental disorder and are living or at elevated risk for HIV.
Recruitment
- Manage recruitment strategies such as: canvassing; social media and networking strategies; event & venue-based, etc.
- Collaborate with Senior Program Manager to develop and maintain an annual outreach and recruitment calendar.
- Recruit and train Social Sexual Network champions to recruit peers; BAI’s A Clinic For Us for HIV Testing.
- Identify and recruit clients with substance use and co-occurring disorders to provide linkages to Seeking Safety program.
HIV Testing, Linkage & Case Management Administration
- HIV Testing
- Ensure all clients are served with the appropriate referrals and linkages through wrap around and red-carpet services.
- Ensure the successful operation of BAI’s clinic and testing days.
- Conduct client-centered culturally affirming HIV counseling and testing.
- Client Navigation and Linkage to Care
- Provide all clients with education/information about HIV transmission.
- Coordinate services for newly and previously diagnosed clients living with HIV and clients who are on PrEP or other biomedical services.
- Coordinate and link clients living with HIV to medical care, biomedical services (ART) BAI support services, and other services as needed.
- Navigate potential barriers to care for newly and previously diagnosed people living with HIV and people on PrEP.
- Develop and maintain communication between BAI and service providers for successful coordination of services.
- Document and complete all referral procedures and documentation in a detailed, clear, accurate, professional, and timely manner.
- Facilitate accurate data entry and file management.
- Assemble and maintain accurate and confidential HIV testing files.
- Maintain accurate and current incentive logs.
- Assist in the maintenance of direct service, linkage, and partnership logs.
- Maintain inventory of supplies and follow-up internal BAI ordering procedures and protocols.
Professional Qualifications:
- 2+ years of relevant professional experience in any of the following fields:
- HIV Testing
- Case Management
- Data and Administrative Support
- Small group facilitation
- A bachelor’s degree in public health, social work, a comparable area or a combination of education and experience is acceptable.
- Certified HIV Testing Counselor (Candidates not certified must attend and pass certification within 90 days of hire)
- Candidate must pass an annual TB screening.
- High level HIV prevention knowledge preferred.
- Experience working with Black communities.
- An understanding of the southern California HIV landscape and communities
- Demonstrated understanding of the structural and cultural issues related to HIV/AIDS prevention and care among Black people, people living with HIV, women, gay and bisexual men, trans folks, and their intersections.
- Demonstrated commitment, in one’s personal or professional life, to social and racial justice.
- High level proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel)
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication
- Ability to maintain a friendly demeanor in person and on the phone.
- Ability to exercise discretion and tact in all interpersonal contacts and always maintain confidentiality.
- Exemplary ability to manage multiple tasks using independent judgment and discretion.
- Ability to work independently and accurately in a high-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
- Ability to work under pressure while exercising discretionary judgment; make decisions, when necessary, with minimal direct supervision
- Flexibility to perform other duties and responsibilities as needed.
- Reliable transportation required.
