Who We Are: The Aliveness Project is a community center for people living with HIV. We serve over 5,000 individuals living with and at risk of HIV. The Aliveness Project boldly advances equitable access to transformative HIV care and prevention. Our primary objectives are to ensure that our members have access to:
- Basic needs: We provide meals, a food shelf, and medical nutrition therapy while our Case Management team helps provide access to healthcare and housing.
- Community: Our community center model provides a safe and supportive place for members to gather and build community.
- Prevention: We provide community based free PrEP/STD Clinic, pharmacy, and targeted outreach to communities disproportionately affected by HIV through education, awareness, and strategies for eliminating stigma.

Position Title: Director of Human Resources and Operations
Reports to: Executive Director
Job Summary: The Director of Human Resources and Operations oversees the overall strategic direction, planning, coordination, administration, and evaluation of the human resources function at Aliveness. The HR Director will champion equity, inclusion and justice in all people policies and processes. They are responsible for developing and ensuring effective implementation of plans, systems, policies and processes for workforce planning, equitable talent acquisition, talent management and development, employee engagement, recordkeeping, employee relations, total rewards (compensation and benefits), and payroll. The HR Director will also ensure compliance with company policies and practices, as well as employer compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. This role will further the organization’s racial equity work and
advance the mission to prevent and end HIV.
Responsibilities:
- Create and improve organizational systems to support staff
- Ensures all Company HR related policies are applied consistently and equitably
- Oversees development, implementation and coordination of all critical HR initiatives including payroll, benefits administration, equitable employee performance management, and diverse recruitment and retentionPartners with leaders to support, nurture and develop human capital in a culturally humble way
- Oversee staff training including professional development, cultural humility, anti-racism, de-stigmatization, and internal policies
- Provides consistent and comprehensive communication of HR policies and initiatives
- Maintain and update all job descriptions
- Ensures legal compliance and reviews policies for best practices and effectiveness
- Manages positive vendor relationships (benefits, payroll, etc.)
- Plan administrator for benefit programs including LGBTQ+ inclusive benefits
- Manages Open Enrollment and new hire onboarding/data collection
- Organizes and maintains detailed personnel records
- Processes bi-weekly payroll
- Updates Employee Handbook and procedures as needed
- Manages Worker’s Comp, FMLA, Unemployment claims
- Serves on leadership team providing HR strategy and policy input
- Develops and implements equitable recruitment, hiring and talent management practices
- Promotes education/training on cultural humility, anti-racism, de-stigmatization
- Participate in and further the organization’s racial equity work
- Supervises the Office Manager and Facilities Manager
Qualifications:
- 3-5 Years Experience in HR Management; SHRM Certification preferred
- BS in HR or relevant field preferred
- Payroll (Paychex) and HRIS (EASE) experience preferred
- Proven experience working with racially diverse communities and LGBTQ+ populations, with a strong understanding of cultural humility
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Thorough knowledge of labor laws, Affirmative Action, federal requirements
- Strong positive communication skills

Compensation: $85,000 - $95,000 annually, based on qualifications
